Review of WitchLove

25 Nov 2013
This review is for book 3 in a series. You can find my review for book 1 here - http://bookishtreasures.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/review-of-witchblood.html

Synopsis

With the reappearance of a lost love, Jess flees to the only people who can help her control her increasing powers and gain independence – her family’s coven.

But with a bruised heart can Jess learn to forgive or will she find new love in the United States?

Witchlove, the third installment of the Witchblood series, is a new adventure that takes Jess from New England to Voodoo country in the South.

Review

This review may contain minor spoilers for book 1 and book 2 as well as some spoilers for the very start of book 3 (sorry but it is impossible to review the book otherwise due to a huge twist at the start. I don’t say what happens but you will be able to guess simply from the characters I mention etc. To be honest you will probably guess it from the book’s synopsis anyway.)

I have loved this British UK/NA vampire series since first reading WitchBlood and WitchCraft was equally fantastic. The ending of book 2 left me very anxious to read WitchLove as several big events occurred that would obviously greatly affect the series and I wasn’t sure if I would love or hate the direction things seemed they would take.
Daniel has always been my favourite character in this series so I didn’t love this book was quite as good as the others due to thing concerning him. I don’t ever want to start loving the hero less; luckily I felt that he redeemed himself later in the book.

Despite missing some of my favourite characters I enjoyed the fact that Jess was away from them all in America for most of the book facing new challenges. Also despite partially wanting more of Daniel, I liked that this book focused more on Jess discovering who she truly was without his presence or their blood bond getting in the way.
Britt proves herself to be a kick-ass character in this book and to also have a huge heart even though it wouldn’t have seemed that way when we first met her in book 2. This book also redeemed a few other characters who had less than dazzling starts and introduced a few more great ones such as Noah.

Overall I thought this was a great continuation to the series and I have very high hopes for the fourth book WitchHunt which I believe is the final one in this series.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, this has not affected my opinions or rating in any way.*
