Feature Friday - Interview with Clare James with giveaway

13 Sept 2013
Feature Friday is a brand new item on Bookish Treasures. Every Friday I will be featuring an author through either an interview or a guest post. If you are interested in taking part please send me an email.

This week I am happy to interview NA romance and contemporary romance author Clare James. Clare is the author the Before You Go series and The Club novella serial.

The Club by Clare James

Synopsis

Twenty-four-year-old Stevie Sinclair has just lost everything: her boyfriend, her apartment, even her ugly bird named Free. (Yeah, she knows it’s stupid name, so don’t start.) But most importantly, Stevie’s lost herself.

As she shuffles through her days in worn-out Hello Kitty PJs—eating ice cream, sipping wine, and contemplating her next move—a magazine article catches her attention. Blaring black letters that read: How to Get Your Sexy Back in Six Easy Steps.

Stevie studies the article in the trashy magazine like the good student she is and immediately knows what she has to do. With the magazine article in hand, and a bottle of red in her bag, Stevie embarks on a journey to reclaim her life and win back her ex.

Until she meets, Gabe Shannon. Gorgeous, single, and on a quest of his own, Gabe introduces Stevie to a club that is sure to help get her sexy back and then some. If she doesn’t chicken out… (Oh, you know where this is going.)

The Club is a steamy New Adult mini-series, with equal parts humor and hotness, and is not to be missed.

Interview with Clare James

Why did you decide to become an author?

I guess the simple answer is that I couldn’t NOT write. I’ve been writing since I was very young and have made a career out of writing (in marketing and journalism), but I never thought I was creative enough to write a novel.  That is, until I tried it. Then I was hooked!

How do you balance writing with other things in your life?
That is the hardest part. Writing really takes over and can keep you away from life, actually. I’m lucky enough to do this full time, so that helps. I write when my son is at school and late at night. And when I’m held up in the house too long, my husband drags me out into the sunlight J

What is your favourite thing about being an author?
Connecting with readers and being part of this awesome community is the best part. I write novels in other genres as well, but the romance/NA community is the most fun!!

What are your favourite books?
My answer here could be pages long. I love to read (in many different genres) and finish 2-3 books a week.  Some of my most recent favourite romance, new adult, and erotic romance books include:

*Ten Tiny Breaths
*Slammed
*Losing It
*On Dublin Street
*Seducing Cinderella
*Gabriel’s Rapture
*The Marriage Bargain
*Wallbanger
*Fifty Shades – every last one!
*Anything by Nora Roberts- I adore her
*Don’t get me started on Tiffany Reisz- she is incredible

I also really enjoy Roni, Loren and Syliva Day. And I love YA romance with books like Sweethearts, If I Stay, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, Twenty Boy Summer, and Pushing the Limits.

Are there any books/authors that inspired you to write?
Delicious books that create amazing worlds are the most inspiring to me.  Harry Potter and the Hunger Games are both amazing.

Describe your book in one sentence.
The Club is about a young woman who goes to great lengths to get her sexy back.

Where did you get the idea for The Club, did anything inspire you to write it?
Well, I have fallen in love with erotic romance and I wanted to try my hand at writing it. The main character is a bit of a mess in the opening of the book and I feel like that quite often. I spend far too much time in yoga pants and Hello Kitty PJs and forget what it really means to be a woman – like so many of us do. This series is about a woman who changes that and reclaims her sexuality.

What made you decide to write The Club in a serial novella format?

I just started reading novellas and serials and I LOVE them. It’s a perfect format for a busy student or mom. You can finish a novella (especially mine) in one sitting. They are fun, fast, and incredibly sexy!

What would you say makes your book unique and worth reading?

I like to take ordinary people and put them in extraordinary situations. I think so many people will be able to relate to my protagonist, Stevie Sinclair. It is a quick read, but there is also plenty of meat to it. And it’s funny. I think this book will make you laugh, cry, and … turn you on, at the same time J

Is there any specific message you wanted to convey in the book?
No. I don’t write to send messages. I write about characters who speak to me and the human condition: love, loss, frustration, joy, sex, relationships—you name it. And I hope the reader takes something away with that!

What are your plans for future books?
In the romance genre, I hope to straddle the line between new adult, contemporary, and erotic romance. Jasinda Wilder, Cassia Leo, and my friend, Kendall Ryan do this so beautifully. I hope to do the same because I love it all so much.

My next novel is a new adult romance about a young mom who hires a male nanny to help care for her young son. This book is going to be fun, sweet, and super sexy. But it may break your heart a little. It will definitely be a roller-coaster ride of emotions!

I’m also not ready to give up my characters from The Club. I think Gabe may be sticking around for another tale J

Do you have any hobbies and Interests unrelated to books?
I love hanging out with my son and husband, travel, running, dancing, and yoga.

Would you ever consider putting these (answer to above) into any of your books?
Yes!! My NA romance, BEFORE YOU GO, is about a dancer. I think I will fit my other loves into other books as well.

FUN STUFF

If you could meet any one author (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

*JK Rowling – I LOVE her. Her personal story is incredible and I would love to know more about her writing process. Plus, she just seems really lovely.

Tell us one interesting fact about yourself.
Back in the day, I used to dance for a crowd of 60,000 people every Sunday. And NO it was NOT at a strip club J

What is your favourite food?
Candy – does that count?

What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
We went zip-lining in the mountains this summer.

If you could be any supernatural creature which would you choose?
Vampire. For. Sure.

This was so much fun!! Thanks, Laura!
